Aeternum screenshot without labels

During the iPhone 6/6 Plus event in October, Apple also announced the Apple Watch. A wearable iOS device that comes with its own distinctive Watch OS. Many really liked the Watch user interface and to be honest, it does look better than the iOS interface. Now, what if you could run the same UI on your iOS device? Well, you can, thanks to a new jailbreak tweak called Aeternum.

There have been a few other tweaks that bring the Apple Watch UI to the iOS device, but this has to be the best one out of the lot. This is a fully functional Apple Watch UI, not just a theme and you get plenty of options. You can re-arrange the app icons according to your preference or in order of most used. The tweak also lets you enable/disable the dock, but the tweak looks best without the dock.

When you tap and hold to rearrange or remove an app, the apps start spinning in different directions, which looks great. All the other animations are butter smooth and tapping on an app will indeed open it.

If you want to use your own set of app icons, you can do that by adding your icons to the tweak location via iFile etc. Don’t want the tweak to display app names, there’s a toggle for that too.

All in all, this is a great tweak that changes the look of your iOS device. Aeternum is available in the BigBoss repo for $2.99. Try it out and let us know how you liked this tweak. Yes, you’re going to need a jailbroken device.

Here are two new Cydia tweaks that you may find useful on your new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus. Of course, you can use these tweaks on other iOS devices as well, but since the new iPhones have larger screens, these tweaks are most useful on them. With these tweaks, you can add a fifth icon to your dock and a fifth column of apps to your homescreen, giving you access to more apps in one screen.

BetterFiveIconDock does what the name suggests, you simply get to place an extra app on the dock. Since the new iPhones have more screen estate and plenty of gap between apps, adding another app to the dock doesn’t make it look ugly. It’s actually quite useful.

BetterFiveColumnHomescreen adds an entire new column of apps to your homescreen, so you get to place an extra six apps on your homescreen. Even with the extra apps, there is still space between them. Although, in landscape mode, the apps will get a little cramped.

To install BetterFiveIconDock and BetterFiveColumnHomescreen, you’re going to have to add the following repo to your sources.

Adding a repo is easy. Open Cydia>Sources>Edit>Add and type in the repo address. Once it’s added, you should see the tweaks in the Changes tab. Both of these tweaks are free to install and don’t come with any options to configure. If you have any other SpringBoard altering tweaks installed, these tweaks will not go well.

detailedbatteryusage cydia tweak screenshot

Do you want to know which app or process is using the most battery on your iOS device? Well, there’s a new tweak called DetailedBatteryUsage that provides you access to a battery usage menu used by Apple during development. Thanks to developer Hamza Sood, you can now find out what apps have been using the most CPU, GPU, Display etc. The tweak can do a lot more.

DetailedBatteryUsage unlocks a hidden menu in the Settings app, under General>Usage. The new Usage menu now shows a graph along with detailed information of what’s using the battery. For a regular user this may not be very important, but if you’re someone who likes to squeeze extra battery life from your iPhone or want to find the culprit for all the battery drain, then this tweak can come in very handy.

You can also view detailed battery usage information for every app on your device and look at graphs etc. Details about system daemons, which are basically background system processess, can also be viewed from the menu.

If you want to give this tweak a try, download it for free from Cydia. This tweak will only work on iOS 8 or later.

PullToRespring Cydia tweak

When you’re on a jailbroken device, it’s always useful to have a Respring or Reboot button easily accessible. A new Cydia tweak called PullToRespring has been released for iOS 8, which lets you Respring your device from the Settings app.

The iOS 8 jailbreak is only a few weeks old, hence the low number of tweaks that work without any issues. There are other tweaks, such as Power Tap, that provide Reboot, Respring and other options in a much more simpler way. However, PullToRespring is also an useful tweak to try out.

After installing PullToRespring, you can simply open the Settings app and pull down to Respring your device. Nothing more to configure, a very simple and to-the-point tweak.

You can download PulltoRespring from the BigBoss repo for free.

iFile for iOS 8 released

Some very useful and popular Cydia tweaks received updates recently. The updates make these compatible with iOS 8 and later. If you’ve jailbroken your iDevice using the new iOS 8 – 8.1.x Pangu jailbreak, then you would definitely want to get these tweaks.

First up, the popular and powerful file management tool for jailbroken iOS devices, iFile, has been given iOS 8 support. iFile 2.1.0-1 also gets full iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus support, apart from bug fixes and improvements.

Here’s the full changelog for iFile 2.1.0-1:

  • Added Hebrew localization.
  • Added iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus support.
  • Added icons for iPhone 6 Plus.
  • During search in file list the search magnifying glass icon gets replaced with an activity indicator.

  • Fixed problem in not listing some external viewers, e.g. Whatsapp, Dropbox, iMovie etc.
  • Fixed issue that Bluetooth transfers via GameKit were not working on iOS 7+ anymore.
  • Fixed issue that stored URL from a 2nd tab will be stored back to 1st tab.
  • Fixed that status bar was black on black in Audio Player.
  • Fixed bug in Box SDK that lead to crash on launch on iOS 8.
  • Updated “Pull down to refresh” arrow with iOS 7 styled one on iOS 7 and later.
  • Fixed that integer numbers containing a decimal indicator (, or .) got interpreted as floats in Property List Editor number fields.

The new iFile update is now available in Cydia’s BigBoss repo for free. To get all the features, you will need to pay.

Another useful tweak, MyWi, has been updated to work on iOS 8. MyWi is perhaps the best solution for tethering on your jailbroken device. You get a tonne of options to play with when using MyWi for tethering.

MyWi 8

MyWi 8 brings iOS 8 and iPhone 6/6 Plus support, however, this release is still in beta. Due to this being in beta, Bluetooth/OnDemand Tethering and Instant Hotspot isn’t available. Also, there is no status bar icon as of now.

You can download MyWi from Cydia for $19.99 if you’re a new user. If you’re not and already had it before, then you get this update for free.

Popular Control Center tweak, CCSettings, has also received an update giving it iOS 8 support. This tweak allows you to install extra toggles than the standard ones that iOS 8 comes with.

The new toggles will be accessible by swiping left to right on the Toggles bar in Control Center. You can use the tweak to re-arrange all the toggles and also remove stock ones. It’s available in the BigBoss repo for free.

ReachAll cydia tweak demoed

One of the new features available for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus is called Reachability. When activated with a double tap on the TouchID Home button, the screen slides down so you can access the elements on top of the screen. ReachAll is a new tweak that brings this functionality to all iOS 8 compatible devices, even those without TouchID.

Reachability makes it easier to use the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus with one hand. The ReachAll tweak lets you use this feature on older devices with a smaller display and could be useful for those who have trouble reaching the top of the screen. This tweak works on devices with or without TouchID. On devices with TouchID such as the iPhone 5s, simply double tap on the Home button to use. For devices without a TouchID, an onscreen button enables this functionality. It works throughout iOS and can be dismissed by tapping on the screen.

You can enable/disable ReachAll from the Settings app, where you can also enable the Tap Box and change its position on the screen. This is what Reachability looks like on a 4-inch iOS device.

ReachAll is available in the BigBoss repo for free and requires iOS 8 or later. Try it out and let us know if you find it useful.

SBFlip cydia tweak demoed

With the release of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Apple released some device specific features such as Reachability and Lanscape Mode. The iPhone 6 Plus, due to its large size, isn’t easy to use with one hand. On the 6 Plus, Landscape Mode lets you change the orientation of the homescreen so you can use the device easily. A new Cydia tweak called SBFlip now brings this Landscape Mode to any iOS 8 compatible device.

SBFlip adds a landscape mode to your homescreen, but from some testing, it only works good with the iPhone 6. I noticed that on older iOS devices, even on a 4-inch display, the apps overlap each other when in landscape mode. Checkout the screenshot below, notice the dock?

If you’re an iPhone 6 user and would like to have Landscape Mode on your device, then you need to try out this tweak. SBFlip is available in the BigBoss repo for free and works on iOS 8 and later only. Want to jailbreak your iPhone 6? Follow our tutorial on how to jailbreak iOS 8 and install Cydia manually.
